Project Overview
Somalia Women and Youth Peacebuilding for Your Rights Project
The Somalia Women and Youth “Peacebuilding for Your Rights” Project (SWYPP) is a major peacebuilding initiative funded by the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund. It is implemented through a consortium led by the International Rescue Committee in partnership with Somali Youth Vision, Daryeel Bulsho Guud, and Elman Peace and Human Rights Center.
The project aims to strengthen inclusive local peace structures and meaningful youth civic engagement in conflict-prone communities. SYV’s role centers on mobilizing youth-led civic forums and supporting communities to design peace initiatives that respond to local conflict drivers, including contested resources, land issues, and livelihood grievances.
Under SWYPP, SYV implemented community-based peacebuilding and governance interventions using the Community Peace Development Framework and Community Engagement and Peace Action Plans. These approaches enabled youth and women to work with district authorities in identifying peace priorities, mapping community needs, and agreeing locally owned actions.
Period: 2023–2025.
Geographic Focus: Banadir Region and South West State, including Mogadishu, Baidoa, Barawe, and Hudur.

Objectives
- Strengthen inclusive community peace structures.

Impact and Results
- The project planned to reach 3,150 direct youth and women beneficiaries and 15,750 indirect beneficiaries.
- Early outcomes included youth participation in local peace committees and increased youth representation in community decision-making forums.
- SYV successfully completed its assigned outputs with full compliance under the IRC-led consortium.
- The project strengthened SYV’s leadership in participatory community mapping, local governance capacity building, and community peace planning.
