Project Overview
Drum of Peace — youth-led dialogue for conflict resolution and social cohesion
Gole Furan, meaning “Open Civic Forum,” is Somali Youth Vision’s flagship initiative for civic engagement and participatory governance. It was originally piloted under the name Talowadaag iyo Xaldoon (Shared Dialogue and Resolution) and was later unified and rebranded as Gole Furan as its national relevance and institutional impact grew.
The platform creates structured and safe opportunities for young people, community members, and state actors to discuss governance, public service delivery, social justice, electoral reform, constitutional review, youth policy, civic accountability, and peacebuilding. SYV facilitates the forums and brings together ministries, parliamentarians, religious leaders, civil society organizations, media stakeholders, youth organizations, women, elders, and marginalized groups.
Gole Furan serves as a practical bridge between citizens and institutions. It enables communities to raise concerns, shape policy ideas, share feedback, and build trust with decision-makers. The initiative also produces knowledge and recommendations from forum discussions to support more responsive and inclusive governance.
Geographic Focus: Mogadishu and Federal Member States, including South West, Jubaland, Galmudug, and Puntland.
Partners and Supporters: Government ministries and agencies, parliamentarians, UNDP, civil society, religious leaders, media, youth organizations, and community representatives.
Objectives
- Establish open platforms where citizens can directly engage leaders on governance, democracy, and service delivery.
- Improve public understanding of Somalia’s political transition, federalism, constitutional processes, and electoral reforms.
- Amplify the voices of youth, women, elders, and marginalized groups in national and regional debates.
- Produce civic briefs, reports, and recommendations that can inform decision-making.
- Strengthen accountability and citizen trust through transparent dialogue.

Impact and Results
- Two Gole Furan events were attended by H.E. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
- Regional sessions have included H.E. Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed “Laftagareen,” President of South West State.
- The platform has contributed to constitutional review dialogues in South West, Jubaland, and Galmudug in collaboration with the Ministry of Constitutional Affairs and UNDP.
- Forums have addressed irregular migration, youth unemployment, representation, accountability, parliamentary work, immigration and citizenship, culture, peace, and national policy priorities.
