Durbaanka Nabadda
Youth-led peacebuilding through dialogue and community action.
Project Overview
Drum of Peace — youth-led dialogue for conflict resolution and social cohesion
Durbaanka Nabadda, meaning “Drum of Peace,” is a Somali Youth Vision initiative that brings young people together through peace forums and community dialogues. It was developed during SYV’s period of deepening community impact between 2019 and 2021.
The initiative empowers youth to move from being viewed only as beneficiaries of peacebuilding to becoming active participants in conflict resolution within their own communities. Through guided dialogue and youth engagement, participants explore local challenges, strengthen their understanding of peaceful problem-solving, and contribute ideas for improving social cohesion.
Durbaanka Nabadda reflects SYV’s long-standing commitment to creating safe spaces where youth can express their perspectives on peace, reconciliation, governance, and social progress. It also helped establish the dialogue-based approach that SYV later expanded through larger peacebuilding projects and its flagship Gole Furan platform.
Period: Primarily documented for 2019–2021, with its peace-dialogue approach continuing across SYV programming.
Geographic Focus: Mogadishu and South West State.
