Project Overview
Helping young people understand their rights and shape governance reform
In 2018, Somali Youth Vision partnered with Somalia’s Ministry of Constitutional Affairs to deliver a youth-focused civic-education initiative during the constitutional review process. The initiative was designed to make constitutional information understandable and relevant to young people.
Working with media partners, SYV developed and shared youth-friendly content, including a documentary film on the provisional constitution. Community workshops and discussions helped participants understand their rights and responsibilities and created opportunities for youth perspectives to be included in national governance reforms.
The initiative was a significant early example of civic outreach developed by youth for youth. It helped demystify constitutional issues and reinforced SYV’s role in connecting young citizens with public institutions and national policy processes.
Period: 2018.
Geographic Focus: Mogadishu and Baidoa, with later constitutional-awareness forums expanding across Federal Member States through Gole Furan.
