Project Overview
Peace infrastructure, livelihoods, and resilience in South West State
PROSPER SOCO — Promoting Sustainable Peace, Reconciliation and Social Cohesion — is a two-year initiative funded by the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund. The project operates in Baidoa and Hudur and focuses on communities affected by conflict and violent extremism.
The project combines peacebuilding, reconciliation, socio-economic support, local-authority capacity building, and positive communication. It strengthens community peace infrastructure while helping vulnerable and at-risk young people access practical alternatives to violence and exclusion.
SYV’s work under PROSPER SOCO includes youth leadership, technical and life-skills development, support to peace committees, women’s empowerment groups, engagement with government authorities, and creative counter-narrative campaigns using art and digital storytelling.
Period: January 2024–December 2025.
Geographic Focus: Baidoa and Hudur districts, South West State.
Partners and Supporters: Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund; ANPPCAN-SOM; SUHAD; local authorities; peace committees; women’s groups; community stakeholders.
Objectives
- Strengthen community peace infrastructure and reconciliation in areas affected by insurgency.
- Improve socio-economic opportunities for vulnerable youth through vocational training and entrepreneurship.
- Build the capacity of local authorities to support reconciliation and the reintegration of at-risk youth.
- Prevent violent extremism through positive narratives, youth leadership, art, media, and community participation.

Impact and Results
- Creative counter-narrative content reached more than 2.3 million people.
- Peace committees received training and support.
- Thirty vulnerable young people completed six-month vocational courses through Skill Up TVET.
- The initiative strengthened SYV’s verified implementation record under GCERF funding and demonstrated transparent consortium and financial oversight.
